Crimson Desert Beginner Guide — Getting Started

Updated 2026-06-03

Crimson Desert drops you into the continent of Pywel as Kliff, leader of the Greymane mercenaries. The first hour is a linear tutorial that teaches combat basics, crafting, and horse riding. After that, the world opens up and things get overwhelming fast. This beginner guide focuses on what actually matters in those early hours.

First five things to do

  1. Follow the main quest to Phien village — this unlocks fast travel points.
  2. Craft a basic weapon upgrade at the first blacksmith — starting gear is weak.
  3. Capture a wild horse — running on foot wastes time.
  4. Learn the parry timing by fighting the training dummy until perfect.
  5. Sell everything labeled "junk" — the game gives better loot fast.

Core systems explained

Stamina governs sprinting, climbing, and dodging. It recharges faster when walking. Health potions are crafted from herbs found near roads — always keep five on hand. The faction reputation system affects shop prices and quest availability, so pick a faction early and stick with it until you max out their rewards.

Do not skip the tutorial horse race. Winning gives you a unique saddle that increases gallop stamina by 20%. You cannot get it later.

Skill points are earned from combat and quests. Put the first three points into the parry follow-up skill and the dodge roll upgrade. These two make early boss fights drastically easier.
